Bred here at Jackson and Perkins and introduced in 2010 as part of the tough-as-nails Blanket series, Beach Blanket bears the distinction of being the most vigorous and heavy blooming of the Blanket series and offers effortless and seemingly endless waves of color all summer long.
The blooms are semidouble, sporting 7 to 10 ruffled pure pink petals with a slightly lighter reverse. Opening to about 2 to 3 inches wide, the flattish blooms reveal lemon-lime throats, which make the deep pink tones pop.
One of the all-time best no-maintenance groundcover roses for challenging garden conditions, it’s easy to grow even in poor soil—the perfect solution for filling in a barren patch of yard. It’s also great for adorning the front of a border or spilling over containers, somewhere you can catch a hint of its subtle fragrance.
Give it plenty of summer sun to thrive, and Beach Blanket’s heavy repeating blooms will turn any backyard into a little slice of paradise.
