All-America Rose Selections (AARS) Winner 1969
Impressive with its loads of bright lavender, ruby-blushing blooms and strong sweet citrus fragrance, Angel Face has won an All-American Rose Selections award, the ARS John Cook Medal in 1971 for fragrance, and also the James Alexander Gamble Fragrance Medal in 2001. Introduced in 1968 as a cross of Circus x Lavender Pinocchio x Sterling Silver, the first modern mauve Rose, Angel Face has the faint silvery sheen of its parentage.
A customer favorite, this classic floribunda offers generous 4-inch double blooms, flushing in clusters, beginning in late spring and continuing well into fall. The urn-shaped buds open to reveal 30 to 35 prettily ruffled petals, often outlined in maroon, as if dipped in paint. As the flowers fully open and begin to flatten, they show a sunny spot of golden stamens.
Upright and bushy, it stands about 3 to 4 feet in height and extends about 3 feet in width. Thriving in full sun and moist, well-drained soil, Angel Face can light up a bed or border. It’s outstanding in mass planting or as a specimen, and it’s stunning in a vase. Whatever its role, this reliable floribunda will perform with style and beauty.
