It may get its name from the large, nearly black buds, but Black Cherry undoubtedly gets its fine reputation from the exquisitely formed, fade-proof, deep red flowers and rich damask scent, evocative and irresistible, with which it fills the garden all summer. The blooms, which open from attractive pointed, ovoid buds, are fully double, 3 to 4 inches wide, and exceptionally long lasting after cutting.
This floribunda begins flowering in early summer and continues in waves all season, especially if deadheaded promptly. Vigorous and easy, it is heat tolerant and resistant to such diseases as powdery mildew and rust, which makes it easier to grow in warmer climates.
Our 24″ patio tree roses are heavy-blooming roses grafted onto a top-quality 24-inch trunk. More compact than the traditional 36″ size, they are ideal for today’s smaller gardens, as well as for containers of all types. The overall tree, once leafed out and blooming, is taller than 24 inches.
Plant in well-drained soil in full sun. Remove spent flowers to encourage rebloom. Spring pruning is recommended. Old and dead wood should be removed and canes that cross need to be cut back. Gardeners in warmer climates should cut back the remaining canes by about one-third, while those in colder areas will probably want to prune a little more than that.
NOTE: Tree and patio roses are hardy to Zone 6 regardless of the rose variety grafted to their tops.
