Citrus Clementine Mandarin Tree, a semi-dwarf cultivar, is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes and fits beautifully into an edible landscape. In spring, the tree blooms in clusters of showy, highly fragrant white blossoms, followed by an abundant crop of colorful mandarins that ripens October to December. Higher quality than other clementine varieties, the juicy, easy-to-peel fruits have a bright, sweet flavor and few to no seeds.
A Citrus x clementina, also known as De Nules Mandarin, Clemenules, Nulesina, Clementina Reina, Clementina Victoria, and Reina Y Gorda de Nules, Clementine Mandarin Tree is widely grown in California and the most widely grown clementine variety in Spain. Clementines are a variety of mandarin. Although the terms mandarin and tangerine can be used interchangeably because they are the same type of fruit, mandarin typically refers to Asian varieties, tangerine to African varieties.
Grafted onto semi-dwarf rootstock, Citrus Clementine Mandarin Tree has a compact habit and makes an excellent accent or specimen but can also be trained as an espalier or grown as a container plant. In the garden, the tree reaches 10 to 15 feet tall at full maturity, but it can be pruned to maintain any desired size and shape. In a container, the tree will be much smaller but will still flower and set full-sized fruits.
Citrus Clementine Mandarin tolerates heat well. It requires at least 8 hours of full sun a day and grows best in deep, evenly moist, well-draining soil but tolerates a wide range of soils, except heavy, wet soils. Protect the plant from strong winds and temperatures below freezing. Move container plants inside at the first sign of frost and place them in a location with plenty of bright sunshine. The tree is self-fertile and will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties.
Citrus trees will ship at the appropriate planting time based on your growing zone. Citrus trees do not ship in December or January. Plant height is 18-36″ when shipped.
