Sometimes the very best plants are accidents. Easy Going Floribunda Rose was discovered growing at Harkness Nursery in England in 1996, a golden-apricot sport among all the orange-apricot Livin Easy roses. Very bushy and upright, the shrub was absolutely covered in healthy foliage. And Easy Going Floribunda Rose stayed that way all season, untroubled by blackspot and other foliar diseases. Here was a magnificently low maintenance, laid-back rose—it had to be named Easy Going Floribunda Rose.
So this naturally-occurring sport of Livin’ Easy arrived on the rose scene in 1998, and gardeners have been singing its praises ever since. Easy Going Floribunda Rose has small clusters of ruffled double blooms held in a wide-open, delightfully elegant way. The soft petals are awash in yellow, gold, and apricot hues and a sweet fragrance reminiscent of honeysuckle. Sublime.
And Easy Going Floribunda Rose is no shrinking violet in the garden. Easy Going Floribunda Rose really doesn’t take up much space, but it makes its presence felt with dense branching and an upright growth habit. The foliage, as you might expect from a rose untroubled by blackspot, is large and glossy, a rich deep green that makes a verdant backdrop for the blooms. Even when Easy Going Floribunda Rose is not in bloom, the shrub is attractive in the sunny garden.
Of course, Easy Going Floribunda Rose gets its blackspot resistance honestly. Livin’ Easy is renowned for it, and that rose was in turn bred from the fine Scottish hybrid tea Remember Me®, another disease-resistant standout. All of these fine ancestors combined to create the happiest of accidents in the form of this splendid floribunda.
