Large bloom clusters in lime, white, pink and rose on a cold-hardy shrub. Hydrangea ‘Limelight’ is a magnificent new panicle variety, with massive, pointed 8-inch bloom clusters.
Hydrangea ‘Limelight’ bloom season is from midsummer through fall, during which the flowers go through a range of colors. Hydrangea ‘Limelight’ open lime green, then turn cream and remain that way through the hottest summer weather. But as the temperature begins to fall, the blooms acquire pink tones, and by the time fall is in full swing, they are a deep, rich red.
‘Limelight’ grows to a height of 6 to 8 feet and a width of 6 to 8 feet. It prefers full sunlight and partial shade and moist and well-drained soil. It is heat and drought tolerant and extremely cold hardy—all the way into Zone 3, which is virtually unheard-of for the Hydrangea family.
This large, well-branched, mounded shrub makes a excellent woodland garden, foundation, or border choice. Cut all the flowers you like for fresh and dried bouquets but be sure to leave some on the shrub for many weeks of beauty, even after the petals dry out.
