This award-winning iris is a Louisiana native with a deep purple bloom that is hard to miss. Since it hails from a swampy state, it is no wonder why this plant loves water so much. Iris ‘Black Gamecock’ thrives best in full sunlight, but it can also stand partial shade when summer afternoons turn hot and dry. In early to midsummer, a dark flower will bloom and grow up to half a foot wide. It is a variety that makes a huge statement and is perfect for boggy areas where other plants are too temperamental to prosper. Iris ‘Black Gamecock’ will feel right at home near a water feature or in a naturalized meadow.
