Are you growing roselilies yet? If not, we must urge you to give Lilium Roselily Carolina a try. This is a double-flowered, fragrant, pollen-free oriental lily. It’s so compact you can grow it in a pot, yet it sets masses of beautiful white blooms with twice (or even thrice) the petals of traditional Oriental varieties. It’s a win-win-win-win.
The roselilies made their debut several years ago, and they just keep getting more popular and exciting to grow. All have a subtle fragrance, a far cry from that overpowering musk of some oriental lilies. Sweet and pleasing, the scent enables them to be grown on the patio or in other trafficked areas—and of course it makes the stems simply marvelous in the vase.
Lilium Roselily Carolina is pure ivory white, a breathtaking beauty that makes all nearby colors shine a little more brightly. Just 2 to 2½ feet high and about 10 inches wide, this is a lily you can tuck anywhere into the garden, and use in your best combo container plantings.
The flowers face upward, and you can expect nearly 2 dozen petals on a single bloom. Very long-lasting, they have been known to stay fresh for nearly 3 weeks after cutting. That’s simply unprecedented.
Like most lilies, Lilium Roselily Carolina increases in size, bud count, and bloom width with each passing year, so prepare to stake it as it grows ever taller and more magnificent.
Plant oriental lily bulbs at least 3 inches deep. Site it in rich soil on the acidic side in a spot that gets full sun or a bit of shade (preferring more shade in the warmest Zones). With average water needs, Oriental lily bulbs prefer moist but well-drained soils.
